Pier51
Some days ago I discovered that a friend of mine still
had a bonus voucher "Two for One" of a restaurant called
Pier51 in her "VVS Bonusheft" (which she gets anually
when buying her VVS season tickes). We were curious what Pier51
is and decided to go there. Admittedly, we were -despite of the
bonus voucher- a bit afraid of coming home as poor people afterwards,
but the visit was worth it.
Their specialties are seafood and lobster, but they offer an adequate
number of other dishes, too. Your lobster is still alive and kicking
when you enter the restaurant (well, he's actually kicking other
lobsters in his aquarium). Just tell the cook which one's kicking
you'd like to set and end to and he'll do his very best to make
a tasty thing out of it. Pier5 are proud of being the only restaurant
in Stuttgart serving fresh lobsters. My friend had the Red Snapper
in Ginger Sauce with Broad Noodles, it was awesome. I tried the
Monkfish Medaillons, they were good but needed a bit of getting
used to. As a soup we recommend the Cocos Soup with Fish. The dishes
were all excellent, the servings could have been a little bigger.
It is possible to order almost all dishes (except the steaks) as
starters. So you might try a number of their jewels and thus getting
an impression of the diversity of the menu.
Don't miss to taste at least one of the Californian Wines. In my
opinion it's not necessary to order one of the more expensive bottles.
The "Open Wines" are very tasty. The Woolpunda Chardonnay
as a white and the Yalumba Cabernet Sauvignon as the red wine especially
suited our taste. Try several wines, as you don't need to order
more than 0.1 liters at a time.
By the way: A reservation was not necessary, the restaurant could
even hold a triple-digit number of people. We were sitting on the
inside, but the patio looks congenial as well. So does the bar:
Happy hour from 5-7pm (all cocktails 4.50 EUR).
Aubergine
You can for sure imagine an assemblage of pictures (like
that one). And if you
think of an animal called a duckbill you also can imagine how an
assemblage of different animals looks like. Now go beyond and imagine
an assemblage of different styles of food, for example Swabian and
Chinese. Or Australian and Thai. That is only part of what they
serve in the restaurant called Aubergine in Boeblingen (but no:
they don't serve duckbills ;-)). The Aubergine is stylish, with
a pleasant atmosphere, lovingly prepared dishes, humourous service
staff, still reasonable prices from 9 to 16 EUR per main dish, around
4 EUR for soups, and around 8 EUR for starters. The cocktails are
quite good and range from 4.50 to 7.50 EUR. Ask the barman for more:
the menu does't list all of his abilities.
